Make sure you have it there when you wind the rest of the yarn. Slide the yarn piece between your middle fingers. Start by cutting an 8 inch long piece of yarn.

You can definitely use regular thickness yarn, but the thinner the yarn, the more you have to wind it around your fingers to get a full looking pom pom.
